Health Insurance Information

Choosing health insurance is one of the many important decisions you’ll make for yourself and your family. You may be worried about the cost, and your agent can help you shop around for a plan that works best with your budget.

How Much Does Health Insurance Cost in Illinois?

Your health insurance premiums are primarily based on the type of plan you choose and the number of people you include in your policy. Depending on your health plan, your age and the ages of the other people covered with your policy may also affect your health insurance premiums. The price varies according to the type of plan you choose, your annual deductible, and your level of coverage, as well.

Why Health Insurance is Important

Health insurance can help decrease the amount of money you pay to access critical services from doctors and hospitals. If you have a serious accident or illness and require medical attention, health insurance can help protect you from the high costs.

Group Health Insurance Plans for Employers

Offering a high-quality health insurance plan helps retain and attract high-quality employees. Since 2018, organizations have been steadily increasing benefits in response to increasing competition for talent.

As a business owner, you have many options when it comes to getting the best possible health insurance plan for your employees. Talk with your Illinois agent to learn more about how to choose a plan that fits within your company’s budget while providing your employees with high-quality coverage.

Employers with one to 50 employees may also be eligible to purchase group health coverage in the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) Marketplace.

Health Insurance Options for Individuals

Before attempting to get health insurance on their own, individuals should check with their employer to determine whether they can get affordable coverage. Many companies offer health insurance benefits to both part-time and full-time workers.

If you can’t get health coverage through your employer, you have a number of options:

Private Plans: Major health insurance companies in your area may allow individuals to enroll in a plan and pay 100% of the premium. Your agent can help you choose a private plan that meets your needs.

Marketplace Plans: The Health Insurance Marketplace, created in 2014, can help you compare the benefits and costs of various plans that meet federal guidelines for health insurance. The plans available to you vary according to the county where you live.

State-Sponsored Plans: Illinois provides residents with access to a number of sponsored plans, including Medical Assistance Programs through the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) and All Kids, which may provide comprehensive health care services for uninsured children.

Medicare: This is a federal program providing health insurance services for people over the age of 65 in the United States. Younger individuals with certain disabilities and those with End-Stage Renal Disease may also be eligible for Medicare.

Medicaid: This is a public assistance program designed to make healthcare accessible for low-income Americans.
